Happy Tree Friends adalah serial kartun Mondo Mini Shows yang dibuat oleh Kenn Navarro, Aubrey Ankrum, dan Rhode Montijo. Warren Graff kadang-kadang dianggap sebagai pembuat Happy Tree Friends. Seperti yang ditandai oleh situs resmi, Happy Tree Friends "tidak direkomendasikan untuk anak-anak". Walaupun karakternya terlihat lucu, tayangan ini penuh kekerasan dengan tiap episode terdapat darah dan kekerasan serta kematian yang keras. Tokyo, Winter.

Despite the use of the Youth Ordinance Bill to enforce curfews for minors and regulate the use of the internet, young people continue to fight for their own freedom through underground methods. One such group calls themselves Surat. They have decided to take on Fumito Nanahara, a man who has great influence on the political world, and basically controls Tokyo with an iron fist. While using the internet as a weapon to discover more information about Fumito, they learn about Tower, the secret organization behind Fumito which engages in human experimentation.

When members of Surat attempt to set up an ambush in the subway to expose the truth behind Tower, mysterious creatures suddenly appear and attack the passengers. During this crisis, Saya appears - a young girl who uses a Japanese blade to slay the Old Ones. The same Saya who lost everything dear to her in that horrifying incident in Ukishima Province. What sort of experiment is Fumito and Tower trying to conduct using the Old Ones? And can Saya finally deliver vengeance to Fumito?

Now, the final battle begins...

In a third-year classroom of Yamakita Middle School 26 years ago, there was a student named Misaki. The story revolves around a sixth-grade boy named Yuuta on his summer vacation. His father passed away one year ago in a traffic accident, and Yuuta now goes alone to visit a place where he and his father once shared memories. The two had gone often to an unused dam deep in the mountains to collect the rhinoceros beetles nearby. Yuuta suddenly receives a shock in a thunderstorm, loses his footing, and gets knocked out. When he wakes up, he sees a small girl and a village — except this village is the one that should be submerged below the dam. Yuuta realizes that he slipped back time to over thirty years ago, before the dam was completed. Another summer vacation, and another chance for Yuuta to reclaim what cannot be reclaimed, begins.

During an age when public entertainment was outlawed, an idol group holds guerrilla concerts without any concern for dangers.

In the beginning of the 21st century, a world war broke out amongst mankind. In the aftermath of the war started by humanity itself, the earth's ecosystem was irrecoverably affected, and it had no choice but to escape the now devastated earth to live in space. A new era began with the Star Calendar 0000. Shortly afterwards entertainment was prohibited by law and the sacred place for otaku, Akihabara, became the public entertainment's absolute area of defense and the only place to perform such activities. In Star Calendar 0048 once more a group was formed in the hope to resume the legacy of the legendary idol act AKB48, which continued to shine even during the earth's downfall. With the law in place they were deemed as an illegal act and unable to hold official live events. This is when the group's concept changed. Instead of the idols you can meet they became the idols who come to meet you. Branded as terrorists by authorities they didn't give up and decided to take up arms to protect the stage they stand on, the fans who cheer for them and the citizens who are deprived of entertainment.

This is the tale of those girls who succeeded the famous name and fight for the freedom of entertainment. Their name is... AKB0048.
